TTPP50: Tips to Pass the CTA TOMC Advanced Technical Paper with Autumn Murphy (TOMC Prize Winner) and Nitin Rabheru (BPP Lecturer)

Towards the end of March 22, Autumn and Nitin did a webinar to help students to pass the CTA Taxation of Major Corporates (TOMC) Advanced Technical paper. The webinar was hosted by James Howell of The Tax Recruitment Company.

The webinar covered loads of great tips on how to pass this exam, with useful study and revision tips, and they’ve all been kind enough to allow me to share the audio with you in this podcast episode.

Autumn started her CTA journey after first being ACCA qualified, and in Nitin’s experience, those in her situation find the transition difficult. The approach needed is completely different and because of this, many who first do the ACCA fail their first CTA exams.

Nitin always make this very clear to his students, and Autumn definitely took what he said to heart.

Despite her initial difficulties when preparing for the exam, Autumn went on to not only pass her TOMC exam first time, but she also won the award for the highest mark in TOMC Advanced Technical paper in the May 2021 sitting, and then went onto win the award for the highest mark in the OMB Advanced Technical paper in the November 2021 sitting.

You might be thinking – well, she’s clearly very smart so she probably just breezed through the exams. So what can she say that would help me?

Well, it’s clear to me that Autumn worked incredibly hard with the CTA exams, and whilst she clearly is smart, I believe her success is down to how she approached studying. She shares her approach in the episode. And this is well worth a listen.
