TTPP73: Supporting Tax Professionals with Reliable Tax Guidance from 35 Years of Tax with Glyn Fullelove

When I was preparing for this episode, I was interested to understand Glyn’s choice to go from a series of Head of Tax roles for FTSE 100 and 250 companies to Senior Tax Writer at Croner-I. They are completely different roles and so I wanted to understand the drivers behind this and how his career motivators have changed over time.

In his writing role for Croner-I, Glyn is the Editor-in-Chief for Croner-I’s weekly e-magazine – Tax Weekly. This newsletter, and Tax Adviser magazine, are actually the only sources I use to keep up to date. And you, as a listener to the podcast, can get free access to this – by heading on over to thetaxprofessionalspodcast.com/croner-i. And you can actually get discounts off their products by mentioning you’re a listener and subscriber to the podcast.

Glyn has also been a tax partner and the CIOT President – and he seems to have a desire to make the tax landscape ‘fair’ – stopping large corporates from getting tax advantages that the average person would not. And that seemed to be a large part of his time as CIOT President.

A lot of in-house tax people tend to also have responsibility for pensions as well as tax, Glyn being one of them. And so, I took the opportunity to ask him how that happened and what that element of the role entailed. And as it turns out, a lot of the skills he developed through working in tax were transferable to this.

As is always the case with Tax Career Success Secrets episodes, I asked Glyn to share a power piece of career advice he received, as well as what advice he would give to his younger self.

I’m sure you will take away new insight and information into what a long standing and successful tax career will look like from this episode – all you need to do is click play to hear it.
