I enjoy the technical side of tax – analysing legislation, case law and guidance – and always have since working in tax. However, I’d gotten the impression that maintain a strong focus on this would hinder my progression as a tax advisor.
Now, to some extent, that is true – but I’ve recently realised that you can, actually, achieve senior roles whilst maintaining technical work at the core of what you do.
Peter has done exactly that, which I find that intriguing.
Peter is the current president of the CIOT and owns his own tax-consulting firm, which he set up in 2009. Before that, he was BDO’s National Tax Technical Partner.
He’s a prolific tax writer, winning Taxation’s Tax Writer of the Year award an unprecedented three times, and enjoys tax lecturing.
Outside of tax, he enjoys music events and being a West Ham United fan!
