TTPP98: How and Why I Moved Tax Role After Being Loyal for 7 Years (Interviewed by Sam Hart)

After months of assessing my options, I did the hardest thing I’ve done in my tax career to date.

For years, I was adamant that I wouldn’t move from one accountancy firm to another. I just thought they would be much the same, so it could seem odd that I have now done exactly that.

Moving to PKF Smith Cooper was such a big decision for me – even though my role, being Employment Tax Director, is technically a step up.

It wasn’t just a decision to accept a new role. It was also a decision to leave one, leave a firm where I’ve grown, progressed, and in the main enjoyed myself.

Given it was such a hard decision for me, I thought it would be helpful (and potentially interesting) to give an insight into my thinking and the process I went through.

That’s exactly what’s covered in this episode

I imagine most of you will have been in, are in, or will be in a similar position at some point, so I’m hoping that it will be relatable and helpful in those situations. For me, it felt like the most important decision of my career, and that the wrong decision could drastically affect my future career. It doesn’t help that it’s impossible to know 100% what the right decision is.

One twist for this episode, though. I’m actually the one being interviewed for a change! So thanks to Sam Hart whose idea it was and for being the interviewer. I think she did a fab job and she made my life very easy!
